Christmas in June…. It’s mathematically more sound if you prefer even things. Though it is a bit of a conundrum as I typically prefer odd things. My personality for example….
@therealjrn I have a friend who’s b-day is also Christmas day, so since we rarely see each other then (family time, and all) we normally celebrate on June 25th. It seems to work out much better, since typically the weather is more agreeable at this time of year.
@therealjrn@tohar1 My birthday is June 25, so I’ve never understood the Christmas in July thing. Christmas in June would make my birthday even more awesome. (I like to tell my family on Christmas that there are 180 shopping days until my birthday. lol)
@therealjrn@tohar1 I was born in December in the southern hemisphere, so my first five birthdays (and Christmases) were in summer. Quite the let down when the family moved north.
@lisagd22@therealjrn@tohar1 Heh… mine is the day before (the 24th). I thought it was the best day for a birthday since it was exactly six months from Christmas Eve so I got loot every six months. The downside was I never able to have a birthday party at my elementary school. Win some. Lose some.
@macromeh@therealjrn@tohar1 I think we’ve had this conversation before but my ADHD doesn’t let things stay in my brain for very long Do spin the tale again
@capnjb@therealjrn@tohar1 December Birthdays/Christmas in the southern hemisphere means outdoor celebrations in the sunny summertime with picnic dinners and swimming pools and the like.
(Not so much in PNW Oregon…)
@mycya4me I coached my daughter for years and I might be a bit of a Star Wars nerd This is what happens when game day falls on May the 4th Also, my favorite daddy/daughter picture… heh.
What does out of season mean? Is it just not December & October holidays? We decorate our porch for every holiday…Valentines & President Day in February, St.Pats in March, Aprils fools, Mothers, Memorial & Star Wars in May, Flag & Pride Day in June, Independence & Bastille Day in July, OboneAdori & Ginza in August, Apple & German fest in September, Halloween in October, Thanksgiving in November, Christmas & NewYears in December. So what is off season?
@Star2236
January is New Years Day, missed that one…Answer to your question:
These are Japanese culture celebrations. Did you see the 2nd Karate Kid movie? The dance that they were at when the fight broke out was during the festival of OboneAdori which honors your past ancestors and Ginza is a family celebration honoring the cultures arts & artists like music, poetry, pottery, origami, flower arrangements and calligraphy.
@chienfou I don’t buy my wife flowers on Valentine’s or Mother’s day. All you’ll get is overpriced almost dead flowers. I’ve got an Amish market right around the corner from me. They have a florist who I’ve known for more years than I care to admit. If I’m off to the butcher’s counter I swing by, say hello and say, ‘can you make me something for $30’. When I am done with my shopping I swing back around and she will have a bouquet that is difficult to carry She knows my wife favorite colors and her favorite flowers. I do this every month or two. I think my wife prefers that to a bad $100 bunch of roses on V-Day
@chienfou Well… she tolerates me. She teaches elementary school and some days I’ll get a big bunch of flowers and take them to her school. The front office knows me (I think they just recognize the cowboy hat) but they let me walk down the hallway to her classroom to surprise her. I think she appreciates that much more than almost dead obligatory flowers given on Hallmark holidays
But on those holidays, I will spend all day in the kitchen cooking her favorite dish, or something new that will soon be her favorite dish The only problem with that is that I’ll spend time in the line at Wegman’s behind 5 guys buying flowers at the last minute which they will probably forget to take the price tag off. I am a romantic deep in my heart and I’d rather to do the unexpected than do the expected Gentlemen… go dote on your ladies
@capnjb
It’s the simple things that show intent that count. Buying flowers for my wife is sort of a coals to Newcastle thing. I will frequently arrange a vase of cut flowers from the yard to surprise her on the dinner table or when she comes back from tutoring.
Once took a bus up to Atlanta 2 hours away in order to be able to surprise her at the airport as she was coming home from a trip with her sister. I had balloons and flowers for each of them & I was wearing a t-shirt with their picture on it from the mud run they had just run at a fundraiser in Colorado. Needless to say they were both surprised.
Easter.
I celebrate Turkey Day whenever an IRK arrives.

My brother was born on Christmas Day so our family used to have a bonus birthday celebration for him in the summer.
/showme a bonus birthday
@therealjrn Here’s the image you requested for “a bonus birthday”

My house always looks like I just decorated for Halloween, on account of the spider webs and machetes.
@brennyn
Saves a fortune on the alarm company fees…

I don’t even do in season holiday celebrations.
The only thing I celebrate is birthdays.

Cool
Summerween makes me feel fine.
@Fuzzalini
ISWYDT…
@Fuzzalini Just need a breeze
I’m retired - every day is a holiday worthy of celebration.
Does celebrating Valentine’s, Easter, and Halloween on the following day count? That’s when the candy starts going on sale
@chienfou It is the only logical approach, in my opinion.

I don’t even do most of the “major” holidays, and I gave up on my birthday long ago.
Drinking before 5 lol
